Freddie Tavares did a LOT of work on the Strat; Freddie was an accomplished steel player; he played the opening "Swoooop" in the Looney Tunes opening theme.
Not surprisingly, this topic has stirred up some chit. Bigsby didn't start messing with guitars until 1948, and they were all semi-hollow. The six strings, anyway. He made a solid tenor.
HOWEVER, It appears that a few Bakelite Selmer/ Rickenbacker Spanish Model B BOLT-ON (!) electric solid bodies DO pre-date the Slingerland. More soon on this...
I heard a rumor once that the person who designed the fender solid body guitar couldn't play. It that true?
ReplyDeleteLeo Fender couldn't play guitar.
